Ringtones generate mad revenue

Albeit old, this article from WIRED News talks about how "Sales of mobile-phone ring tones, those tiny song recordings programmed into millions of cell phones around the world, jumped 40 percent in the past year to $3.5 billion."

There's a lot of buzz in the mobile entertainment market and the projected revenue is set around $27bn by 2008. More info here from Infosync.

Here's something no one's done yet (at least I THINK no one's done it) - get a popular band to compose an original ringtone. Or better yet - get an artist or band to release a whole album of original ringtones. Orrr... release an album along with an in-package CD that includes downloadable ringtones of all the songs on the CD. How genius would any of those be? I should work in marketing...
