Indian Wedding Process aka The Inquisition
A friend of mine is a very eligible bachelor and comes from a somewhat traditional Indian family. That said, he is being 'wooed' by families that are interested in getting him married to their eligible daughters. What follows is an e-mail that this friend received from the girl's grandfather 'asking a few questions.' Click below to read the rest of it.

I have some hesitation in giving to you some questions in our face to face meeting and hence they are sent hereby through email. Please do not mind answering them through email.
Questions:
1. What is the significance, value, worth, and need of the exercise of promises made in front of fire during the ceremony of [the] phera [(traditional Hindu wedding ritual where the bride and groom walk around a fire)]?
2. Given here below are some words. I need you to give to me meaning, significance, duties and rights associated with the name, responsibility, accountability, which go with the name. Please do not mind your answer being lengthy. See that the answer is complete.:
a. Love
b. Marriage
c. Wedding
d. Pati (Husband)
e. Bharta (Sanskrit word, also used for husband)
f. Swami (Also used for husband)
g. Ardhangini [(Wife)]
h. Bharya
i. Dharm [(Duty)]
j. Parivar (Family)
k. Dharm Patni [(Dutiful wife)]
3. Who is/are the right person/persons to decide on the subject of match making for marriage ?
4. What are the common causes of differences between a husband and wife ?
5. What makes an association of husband and wife last lifelong without a single occasion of differences ?
Hints: Income, wealth, health, wisdom, or none of these. If none, what ??
6. Whether marriage is love or contract ?
7. What do you expect from marriage ?

When an issue like this comes up for "Such A Very" good friend, I think we need to help him out. Apparently the man has already spent some sleepless nights thinking about all this. I am sure he would appreciate some words of wisdom from you.
